چکیده

This paper derives the limiting distributions of alternative jackknife IV (JIV ) estimators and gives formulae for accompanying consistent standard errors in the presence of heteroskedasticity and many instruments. The asymptotic framework includes the many instrument sequence of Bekker (1994) and the many weak instrument sequence of Chao and Swanson (2005). We show that JIV estimators are asymptotically normal and that standard errors are consistent provided that √ Kn rn → 0 as n → ∞, where Kn and rn denote, respectively, the number of instruments and the concentration parameter. This is in contrast to the asymptotic behavior of such classical IV estimators as LIML, B2SLS, and 2SLS, all of which are inconsistent in the presence of heteroskedasticity, unless Kn rn → 0. We also show that the rate of convergence and the form of the asymptotic covariance matrix of the JIV estimators will in general depend on the strength of the instruments as measured by the relative orders of magnitude of rn and Kn.

Estimation and Testing Using Jackknife IV in Heteroskedastic Regressions With Many Weak Instruments∗

This paper develops Wald type tests for general possibly nonlinear restrictions, in the context of heteroskedastic IV regression with many weak instruments. In particular, it is first shown that consistency and asymptotically normality can be obtained when estimating structural parameters using JIVE, even when errors exhibit heteroskedasticity of unkown form. This is not the case, however, with...

Testing for White Noise under Unknown Dependence and Its Applications to Diagnostic Checking for Time Series Models

Testing for white noise has been well studied in the literature of econometrics and statistics. For most of the proposed test statistics, such as the well-known Box–Pierce test statistic with fixed lag truncation number, the asymptotic null distributions are obtained under independent and identically distributed assumptions and may not be valid for dependent white noise. Because of recent popul...

Estimation of the Heteroskedastic Canonical Contagion Model with Instrumental Variables

Knowledge of contagion among economies is a relevant issue in economics. The canonical model of contagion is an alternative in this case. Given the existence of endogenous variables in the model, instrumental variables can be used to decrease the bias of the OLS estimator. In the presence of heteroskedastic disturbances this paper proposes the use of conditional volatilities as instruments. Sim...

Specification and Estimation of Spatial Autoregressive Models with Autoregressive and Heteroskedastic Disturbances.

This study develops a methodology of inference for a widely used Cliff-Ord type spatial model containing spatial lags in the dependent variable, exogenous variables, and the disturbance terms, while allowing for unknown heteroskedasticity in the innovations. We first generalize the GMM estimator suggested in Kelejian and Prucha (1998,1999) for the spatial autoregressive parameter in the disturb...

M -estimation in Garch Models

This paper derives asymptotic normality of a class of M-estimators in the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic ~GARCH! model+ The class of estimators includes least absolute deviation and Huber’s estimator in addition to the well-known quasi maximum likelihood estimator+ For some estimators, the asymptotic normality results are obtained only under the existence of fractional u...
